Black Widow is a sativa-dominant hybrid strain of cannabis created by Mr. Nice Seed Bank in 1994. It won the 1995 Cannabis Cup.

Description

A combination of a Brazilian sativa crossed with a South Indian hybrid, Leafly described the strain as "[nicely] balanced" and the "evil sister" of White Widow, adhering to the family's reputation for high THC percentages.[1][2] The strains THC concentration levels have been tested, with results as high as 28% and as such excessive consumption has been known to induce couch-lock.[3] An ideal choice for amateur growers, Black Widow is naturally resistant to molds, mildew, and pests and may yield up to 350 to 450 grams per square meter indoors or 300 to 400 grams outside, depending on the growers experience. Like its white counterpart, this strain is also covered in white trichomes and its dense bright green buds are speckled with fine purple and orange-red hairs.[4] Medicinally, Black Widow has proven effective in alleviating ailments such as chronic pain, anxiety, insomnia, and nausea. It helps to boost appetite and, given its high THC level and couch-lock inducing properties, is recommended for evening use.[5]

According to Kind Green Buds, "Black Widow has a pungent, sweet scent with an acrid, ammonia overlay. The smoke's flavor improves upon the scent, tasting of sweet pine. The high is very lucid, but may sometimes make you want to lie in a hammock and doze". They went on to say that the "plant's structure is like a lanky christmas tree. Black Widow likes TLC to achieve optimum results. For indoor methods, 8 to 10 weeks of flowering are necessary to produce the immense resin of which this plant is capable. In outdoor gardens, high rainfall can result in reduced yield. Great to use in experimental strains for the layman, the male pollen is recommended to achieve some interesting hybrids."[6]
