A cannabis grinder is either a mechanical or electrical operated device used for the grinding/cutting up of cannabis to either allow for smoother smoking or easier ingestion. Commercially available in a number of different designs: 2, 3, 4, and 5-part, materials including plastic, brass, wood and aluminum. Some models have additional extras such as built-in pollen screens and kief catchers to help make the weed go further. Small magnets are often set into the material in the center to keep the parts or sections together when transporting.
Usually round and consisting of several sections, the inside of all top and bottom facing sections have teeth strategically placed that pass by each other when turned. These teeth have very little space between them and as such grind the cannabis into a finer, more manageable consistency. How fine the user prefers his weed will depend on how tight it's packed and how much it's turned. New grinders tend to turn with relative ease initially however the more the device is used the more resin tends to pack up along the sides and users will need to clean that out periodically (see right).
