Location of Kiribati

Kiribati, officially the Independent and Sovereign Republic of Kiribati, is an island nation in the central tropical Pacific Ocean. The permanent population is just over 100,000 (2011) on 800 km2. The nation is composed of 32 atolls and one raised coral island dispersed over 3.5 million square kilometers, straddling the equator, and bordering the International Date Line at its easternmost point.

Cannabis Legislation

Cannabis and all activities associated with it are illegal in Kiribati however the laws are rarely enforced as corruption is rife and police are poorly trained. In 2006 they had yet to receive training on identifying the plant. While alcohol, like most countries, is the major socially accepted drug of choice, cannabis is grown locally and is also imported from Fiji.[1]
