Seattle is a coastal seaport city and the seat of King County, in the U.S. state of Washington. It is the largest city in the Pacific Northwest region.

Seattle is known for being relatively tolerant of marijuana.[1] The Washington Liquor Control Board will allow Seattle to have up to 21 marijuana stores.[2] In 2011, City Council passed Ordinance 123661, which states that the "manufacture, production, processing, possession, transportation, delivery, dispensing, application, or administration of marijuana must comply with all applicable City laws, and that compliance with City laws does not constitute an exemption from compliance with applicable state and federal regulations."[3][4] Smoking marijuana in public, comparable to public consumption of alcohol, can result in a fine of $27.[4]

Washington NORML and King County NORML, a state and subchapter of the National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws (NORML), are both based in Seattle.
