Location of the Solomon Islands

Solomon Islands is a sovereign country consisting of a large number of islands in Oceania lying to the east of Papua New Guinea and northwest of Vanuatu and covering a land area of 28400 km2. Solomon Islands should not be confused with the Solomon Islands archipelago, which is a collection of Melanesian islands that includes Solomon Islands and Bougainville Island.

Cannabis Legislation

Cannabis and all activities associated with it are illegal in the Solomon Islands and authorities are actively involved in raids on outdoor grows. It was reported in local media that the police and the participating police force conducted a series of police operations on suspected cannabis plantations in the Guadalcanal Plains area. A total of 6492 plants, worth an estimated street value of 13000000 (local currency), were seized from several locations.[1]

According to a United Nation document 53.7% of young males and over 40% of young females reported ‘recent use’ of cannabis in the Solomon Islands.[2]
