Location of Somalia within Africa

Somalia, officially the Federal Republic of Somalia, is a country located in the Horn of Africa. It is bordered by Ethiopia to the west, Djibouti to the northwest, the Gulf of Aden to the north, the Indian Ocean to the east, and Kenya to the southwest. Somalia has the longest coastline on the continent's mainland.

Legislation

Cannabis and all activities associated with it are illegal in Somalia. Drug laws are strictly enforced and perpetrators can expect heavy fines and a jail sentence.[1]

In 2006, seven men were sentenced to 40 lashes each for using or selling marijuana, the first public lashing since a militia-backed Islamic group took control of the capital, Mogadishu, in June of that year. Officials said that the men were arrested two weeks prior, but did not say whether they were tried.[2]
