Hi all. How many people approximately are participating with this wiki? Just joined and keen to find out. Robvanvee 06:23, 15 May 2014 (MDT)

Rob, currently there are less than ten registered users, which sounds low, but please keep in mind that this project is only about 2 weeks old. I believe this wiki has great potential. People want reliable, quality information about cannabis, and a wiki is a great platform for collaborative editing and sharing info on a global scale. Welcome to the project, and please feel free to invite people with similar interests and skills! Looking forward to your contributions. --Jason (talk) 10:01, 15 May 2014 (MDT)

Creating pages

I see there are currently no pages for Marijuana or Cannabis. Are we to assume people coming here already know what they are and it's therefore pointless creating them? Robvanvee 11:24, 15 May 2014 (MDT)

Nope, they should be created, they just haven't been yet! :) In your opinion, what is the difference between cannabis and marijuana? --Jason (talk) 13:52, 15 May 2014 (MDT)
Not sure if there is a difference to me. It's just a name, but I guess there are those who might disagree. Perhaps it's a regional thing with marijuana sounding Spanish. Or perhaps cannabis is just the correct English term and marijuana is a nickname? I mentioned those 2 because those were my search keywords. I would imagine a merged article for now...Robvanvee 06:37, 16 May 2014 (MDT)
I created a short article for Cannabis, and redirected Marijuana to the Cannabis article. Wikipedia does this as well. Well, technically, Wikipedia has the articles "Cannabis" (for the genus), "Cannabis (drug)" for marijuana, but I don't think we need to make this separation, at least not now. --Jason (talk) 09:22, 16 May 2014 (MDT)

5000 main page hits

6 hits short of 5000 on the main page. Well done fellow wiki warrior! Robvanvee 01:31, 6 July 2014 (MDT)

Nice! I am still wondering how the heck the Michael Bloomberg page received so many views. --Jason (talk) 09:32, 6 July 2014 (MDT)

Interesting: hemp in heraldry category at Wikimedia Commons

Just sharing for future reference! --Jason (talk) 09:44, 15 July 2014 (MDT)

Project page space?

Should we decide how to create project pages? For example, it might be helpful to include an archive of past Strain of the Week picks. Should we host that at Weed.Wiki: Strain of the Week? Or, another project page title? At Wikipedia, all project pages are Wikipedia:X. Thoughts? --Jason (talk) 10:04, 15 July 2014 (MDT)

Not sure I understand how they would be used? Is it so we can keep track of what has already been posted at SOTW so as to avoid accidental re-posting? Robvanvee 08:20, 16 July 2014 (MDT)
Well, it wouldn't be the end of the world is we duplicated a Strain of the Week. Perhaps it is not worth the time to maintain the page. But the discussion should still be had at some point re: project space name. When the time is right! --Jason (talk) 08:50, 16 July 2014 (MDT)
Cool, I'll leave that to you to decide :) Robvanvee 09:12, 16 July 2014 (MDT)

Main Page design

Weed.Wiki text banner

I created the text banner displayed to the right. Nothing fancy, just something I created at real quick to replace the plain text. I am not opposed to alternative/better graphics, fonts, etc. It would be great if other contributors helped draft some artwork to make the wiki more visually appealing. -Jason (talk) 16:39, 6 November 2014 (UTC)

Possible idea for Main page?
It's cool, I like it! Yes it would be cool. Any chance we could make it look a little like this? Robvanvee 18:06, 6 November 2014 (UTC)
Well, I like the layout, but I am not sure I know how to make that happen. :( I will look at some other wiki Main pages and see if I can break down the code. -Jason (talk) 22:17, 6 November 2014 (UTC)

Working on an overhaul at the moment, FYI. -Jason (talk) 18:11, 12 December 2014 (UTC)

Rob, what do you think of the new main page? Now that the wiki has more extensions, we have more design and template options. I redesigned the main page based on Theosophy Wiki's layout. Also, if you want to see what templates they use (which we may want to replicate here), see this list. -Jason (talk) 18:55, 12 December 2014 (UTC)

Woke up this morning to the new main page and all I can say is WOW!!!! It looks fantastic! Really love the layout and the subtle colours. Jason, you have outdone yourself and have earned your tokestar award for sure with this. Pardon my absence lately. It's the busiest time work wise for me at the moment and I got arrested at home on Monday. They found 109 plants in my garden and have charged me with dealing. Court date is 21 Jan. Bummer, but lawyer says I wont get jail time. Thank fuck - I'm not a criminal! Oh well, I'm still here and contributing when I can. Again, love your work! Robvanvee 06:21, 13 December 2014 (UTC)
Glad you like the new layout. No need to apologize to me; I appreciate your work on the project whenever you have the time and interest. You be sure to take care of yourself and stay out of trouble. -Jason (talk) 06:28, 13 December 2014 (UTC)
Really love what you have done J. What an amazing transformation our MP has been through. And to have my country of birth featured as the first AOTW is a huge honour!! Will you be taking on the task of updating this section? I see the wiki banner on the left has gone. What was up with that? And I notice you are on a large number of wikis, if you don't mind my asking, why is that? Have a fantastic evening and I'll see you in the new year! Robvanvee 14:19, 31 December 2014 (UTC)
Thanks, Rob! I have a lot of fun working on the wiki. I'll try to update the AOTW section when I remember, but certainly I wouldn't be offended if you made updates to it as well. Weed.Wiki is one of many wiki projects hosted by the company I work for (as mentioned in this intro). I have been contributing to many different wikis for years now, sometimes as part of my job and often on my own time. I enjoy wikis and wiki culture and community. You should still see a small drop down for creating a new wiki on the left-hand side. This is because we want people to start other wikis about other topics of interest. You will see that most of the wikis have an ad banner. I assume this one will too at some point to offset hosting costs, but I don't think AdWords can be used on websites about drugs, so it might be done by a different service. Does that answer your question? This wiki may be associated with a company I work for, but my interest in cannabis culture, legislation, prohibition, etc. is genuine. -Jason (talk) 16:50, 31 December 2014 (UTC)
I don't doubt that J. Sorry, was meant to get to SOTW yesterday but things got a little hectic. All the best for 2015. Robvanvee 14:06, 1 January 2015 (UTC)
No problem! Wishing good things for you in 2015. -Jason (talk) 17:13, 1 January 2015 (UTC)

Got any ideas? Robvanvee 19:01, 8 January 2015 (UTC)

Something you created would be nice. Aaah...long pages in special pages...cheers. Ya, your call. Robvanvee 19:17, 8 January 2015 (UTC)
Update: I crossed out two above which have since been featured on the Main Page. -Jason (talk) 08:15, 30 January 2015 (PST)
Ditto Lady Gaga. -Jason (talk) 18:23, 27 February 2015 (UTC)

Recently featured

I thought that may be better than having the portals repeated in the featured article section. Your thoughts? Robvanvee 07:11, 20 January 2015 (PST)

Looks great! Good idea. I am going to go ahead and create a Project:Article of the Week page for tracking purposes. -Jason (talk) 07:30, 20 January 2015 (PST)
Update: I moved the page to Project:Featured Article per discussion below. -Jason (talk) 08:14, 30 January 2015 (PST)

"AOTW" vs "Featured Article"

Don't you think the latter makes more sense given it's not always done weekly (not a criticism). That way we don't need to stress about a deadline. Just a thought. I don't want to step on toes, this being your thing and all, but I'd be happy to step in on occasion if you need? Robvanvee 05:30, 30 January 2015 (PST)

Sure, Rob. I am fine with the term "featured article" though this differs from the Wikipedia term, which implies quality rating and not just "selected article". However, this is not Wikipedia and I am fine with using "featured article", meaning "featured on the Main Page". Yes, I am terrible at remembering to swap out the article on the Main Page. You are always more than welcome to help, but don't feel obligated. Also, this is not my thing... it is our thing. :) -Jason (talk) 08:11, 30 January 2015 (PST)
Or Selected Article, as you say. Also sounds good if you would prefer to not use FA? Either is probably better than AOTW. Robvanvee 08:35, 1 February 2015 (PST)

Not a big deal, but why don't the borders of the bottom 4 panels (FA, AOTW, WATW & ITN) line up on the right side? It's a bit beyond my markup ability. Robvanvee 08:53, 1 February 2015 (PST)

We might consider posting here at some point. -Jason (talk) 09:06, 20 February 2015 (PST)

Just noticed. Very cool! Robvanvee 09:09, 23 April 2015 (PDT)

Be nice to get rid of that dead white block at bottom right? Robvanvee 09:10, 23 April 2015 (PDT)
Thanks! Yeah, I want to find a better (and more mobile-friendly) way to display the Around the World and In the News sections, but not sure exactly how yet. The top part of the page definitely looks better on mobile devices now. BTW, got a nice spike of traffic this week due to 420. Couple new registrations, too, but still a limited number of edits by new contributors. -Jason (talk) 09:20, 23 April 2015 (PDT)
Yeah and a spike in FB likes too. Cool, will check out on mobile. Robvanvee 09:57, 23 April 2015 (PDT)

2016 Global Marijuana March

I am following up from a Dec. 2014 message on my Wikia talk page. I am a bureaucrat/steward on the Wikia cannabis wiki, and the Shoutwiki cannabis wiki.

I don't foresee having the energy to compile cities or countries for the 2016 Global Marijuana March. So anybody can have at it! The more the better! In 2015 I did not list cities. Only countries:

I may copy and mirror city and country lists that others do for 2016 GMM. But that is the most I will probably do. --Timeshifter (talk) 09:24, 9 June 2015 (PDT)

No problem. First and foremost, welcome to Weed.Wiki. Constructive edits are welcome here whenever you have the time and interest! -Jason (talk) 08:42, 11 June 2015 (PDT)
Thanks! --Timeshifter (talk) 07:16, 12 June 2015 (PDT)

Wiki.Wiki leader boards is on all four of Wiki.Wiki's leader boards:

Very cool! -Jason (talk) 08:58, 7 July 2015 (PDT)

Interesting. Not all wiki farms provide running totals of statistics for views. I assume it can overtax some server setups. Wikia provides a daily and weekly total that admins can see. Only for the last week. It is motivating to know that a wiki farm is popular at times. --Timeshifter (talk) 12:27, 7 July 2015 (PDT)
Thanks, Timeshifter. I just created these lists manually, so they require monitoring/updating, but the stats are interesting, and possibly even motivating to project contributors. Let me know if you can think of other stats worth tracking, or really any other ideas for the Wiki.Wiki site in general. It would be great to have a larger community there. -Jason (talk) 13:06, 7 July 2015 (PDT)
